One of the hardest goals to achieve, within the music industry, it is undoubtedly to be an independent artist.
To be independent means to have to write and record music on your own, to find the funds necessary to allow yourself with studio time to record the demos that said artist brings in, to find a producer available to work with the artist in question and, last but not least, a record label prepared to invest financially on the making of the record, with the artists often ending up self-releasing their records with either their own money or being financially supported by their fans, through crowdfunding campaigns.
In the case of the American singer/songwriter Brigitte Purdy, to be able to release her second full-length album called Mother Of The Crossroads, a record that has been in the pipeline for a few years, after the highly appreciated 2018 debut album called Still I Rise, has certainly been an incredible journey made of belief and perseverance and a journey that has most certainly paid off for the talented American artist, given the many accolades the album is already receiving worldwide.
Thanks to the backing of the Oregon-based record label Dirtshack Record and Purdy's trusted long time multi-instrumentalist collaborator (and producer too, in this instance) Dave Osti, Mother Of The Crossroads finally saw the light of the day earlier this year, allowing finally Brigitte Purdy to showcase in full her phenomenal singing voice throughout the 9 tracks included in this very inspired record.
Written and recorded together with Dave Osti, Purdy's new album is an exciting excursus into Americana of the highest level, with the singer/songwriter exhibiting an eclectic, impressive vocal range, tiptoeing with incredible ease into Soul, Blues and R&B throughout the whole of the record.
The role of Dave Osti's work too, in creating all the songs' arrangements and playing multiple instruments at the same time, is truly remarkable, particularly on songs like Too Full Of You, Losin' Time For Love and Blues Collar Woman, in our personal opinion.
Undoubtedly, though, the strongest thrill at every single point of the record comes from Brigitte Purdy and her breathtaking vocal range; the American singer/songwriter displays such a great control in her vocal delivery every step of the way, supported by an inner talent that allows Purdy's voice to shine naturally either when she may sound sassy, in some of her songs (Blues Collar Woman, Memphis Hotline), or deeply soulful (Mother Of The Crossroads, Too Full Of You).
Mother Of the Crossroads confirms Brigitte Purdy as one of the hottest names in the whole contemporary Americana context, thanks to a record that shows the full potentials of an artist that, just like a bottle of the finest wines, it gets better and better as the years go by.
