For the last two decades, the fame and reputation of the American Funk/Jazz/Rock Guitar Maestro, songwriter, producer and podcaster Cory Wong has increased exponentially, thanks not only to the undisputable multifaceted talent of the 40-years-old's artistry and ability, but also to his well-known association with bands like Vulfpeck or Dave Matthews Band, amongst other, with whom Wong has worked with on numerous occasions.
Whilst running his solo career and running at the same time a remarkable instrumental side project called The Fearless Flyer, Wong finally managed to find the time to get back to studio and to work on the follow-up of his successful 2024 solo album called Starship Syncopation, a record that was unanimously received by the worldwide music press as a superb contemporary display of the finest quality of Jazz, Funk and Fusion.
What emerged, as a result of Wong's hard work in studio, is a sublime body of work called Lost In The Wonder, a record that showcased wonderfully why the American artist is considered one of the hottest names around, when it comes to play and combine Funk, R&B, Acid Jazz and Fusion in the most organic and creative form.
In the 12 tracks part of this truly masterful album, Wong surrounded himself with a brilliant array of Special Guests on vocal duties, from longtime compadres, such as
his Vulfpeck bandmate Theo Katzman (on Lisa Never Wanted To Be Famous), to new and enormously talented such as Devon Gilfillian or Elysia Biro, among many others.
Lost In The Wonder is a mouthwatering display of Wong's many talents, as a guitar player, songwriter and producer; among Cory Wong multifaceted skills, there is also that of being able of elevating effortlessly music genres such as Acid Jazz or Fusion to a more contemporary level, with such a remarkable ability to couple the perfect song structure to each of his lyrics, as amply demonstrated on many songs part of the album, such as Tongue Tied, The Big Payoff, One Way Road or Roses Fade and the list could go on forever.
Wong don't miss a beat, with his incredible guitar playing on any of the 12 album songs, particularly on tunes like Blame It On The Moon, The Big Payoff and All Night, Alright, in our personal opinion.
Sonically opulent, masterfully played, arranged and produced, Lost In The Wonder is one of those rare records that you can't help yourself by playing over and over again on your hi-fi, thanks to its uplifting melodies and irresistible dancing vibes that this excellent record exudes, track after track.
Cory Wong has done it again!
