RIP Jimmy Castor: The Jimmy Castor Bunch.
January 17, 2011
It is with great sadness that I learned today from Bob Davis at the Soul Patrol Newsletter that Jimmy Castor has died. Mr. Castor was 71 years old and passed away in Las Vegas. At this time we don't know the cause. He has the credits and recognition of hip hop, pop, funk, soul, R&B and fans worldwide. As a brilliant musician, bandleader, sax player, quirky lyricist and great vocalist, his music is unmistakable and has been iconic for decades.
In following his music, I consider him to be one of the most creative, raw and honest musicians of funk and soul. You have to 'get' Castor to enjoy him and once you hook into his energy and legendary stories, you never forget him.
I will continue to add to this post, but until then, enjoy some E-Man, get down and dance in the spirit of this courageous musician and his beloved family. His family posted on their Facebook page that there will be a memorial service in Las Vegas and NYC, his original hometown. The soul and funk world will rise.
Hey Leroy ! We love you ! Right On !
